About Cross Bay Boulevard
Cross Bay Boulevard is the artery that holds southern Queens together. It starts at Liberty Avenue under the A train el, runs south through Ozone Park, jumps the Belt Parkway interchange at the Howard Beach line, then crosses Jamaica Bay over the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge into Broad Channel and out to the Rockaways. The Ozone Park stretch, the part we work, is a six-lane commercial boulevard with strip malls, standalone restaurants (Don Peppe's, Vetro by Russo's, Lenny's Pizza from the Saturday Night Fever opening scene), Italian bakeries (Cara Mia, Crispelli's), and the seafood places, Howard Beach Seafood, the Lighthouse Inn at the southern end, that you don't find anywhere else in Queens.
Cross Bay Blvd has a very specific resident pattern. The two-family attached row houses run east and west off the boulevard. The bigger apartment buildings cluster around the intersections with 101st Ave, Liberty Ave at the north end, and along the Howard Beach Lindenwood stretch in the south. South of the Belt the housing shifts into the waterfront single-family Howard Beach pattern, bigger lots, more boats in driveways, Jamaica Bay at the back property line.
How delivery to Cross Bay Blvd actually works
We are the depot at 135-26, so anything on Cross Bay Blvd between Liberty Ave and 159th Ave is close to the depot. Drivers head north on Cross Bay Blvd to reach the Ozone Park heart (Cara Mia, the Liberty Ave intersection, the apartment buildings around 104th Ave) or south to reach Lindenwood and Old Howard Beach. The lights along the boulevard are the main slowdown.
One quirk: the Belt Parkway service road at 153rd Ave to 156th Ave is a busy stretch when the seafood places fill up.
