About Liberty Avenue

Liberty Avenue runs east-west through the middle of Ozone Park and Richmond Hill, with the A train elevated rumbling overhead for the entire commercial stretch. East of about 102nd Street it is the old Ozone Park Italian-American baseline — Don Peppe's a few blocks south, the Gleason Park co-ops one block north, the Liberty Avenue Diner. Then somewhere around 121st Street the corridor changes character entirely and becomes the densest Indo-Caribbean commercial strip in the United States — Guyanese roti shops, Trinidadian doubles vendors, sari and gold stores, sweet bakeries like Sybil's and Singh's. The transition is gradual and there's no clean line, but on a Saturday morning the contrast in foot traffic between Liberty and 90th Street and Liberty and 125th Street is striking.

The residential layer above Liberty is two- and three-story mixed-use — storefronts at grade, walk-up apartments above — plus the bigger pre-war buildings clustering at the A train station intersections (88 St, 104 St, 111 St). Off Liberty to the north you get the Ozone Park bungalow and rowhouse blocks. To the south you eventually hit Atlantic Ave and the rail right-of-way that separates Ozone Park from the rest of the borough.

How delivery to Liberty Ave works

Drivers head north on Cross Bay or 102nd Street out of our depot and turn onto Liberty Ave. Real drive time is 8 minutes on a quiet weekday and 12 on a Saturday afternoon when the Indo-Caribbean corridor is moving at full sidewalk volume. The single bottleneck is the Lefferts Blvd intersection — there's no real way around it during weekend lunch. East of Lefferts (the more residential Ozone Park side) is faster than west of Lefferts (Richmond Hill side).

One thing to know: the A train el is loud. If you live in a third-floor walk-up with windows facing the platform, put your buzzer number in the order notes twice. Drivers ring it once but train pull-in often drowns out the response.
