Hot Chicken (and Weather): A Terp Bros Newsletter
Welcome back, Terp Team! It's been about a week since we last caught up, so what did we miss? Oh, a relentless heat wave, a parasitic diarrhea infection sweeping the nation, and a thick, oppressive blanket of Canadian wildfire smoke that's been draped over the entire northeast with no sign of letting up soon? Cool, good to know. Well, at least things are going great here at Terp Bros Astoria and Ozone Park. New products, fun events, great local food spots opening up, etc. If you're looking for some fun ways to try out the fashion limits of your new wildfire respirator, or if you're just trying to trade the smoke outside for some better smoke inside, then keep reading and let us set you up for the next seven days the only way we know how!

New MFNY Gummy Flavor! - Wild Berry x Shishkaberry (Astoria)

If you love MFNY gummies (and if you've tried them, you do), then you have to try their new Indica flavor that just dropped! The Wild Berry x Shishkaberry has all of the deep, fruity and tangy flavor that you expect from a wild berry gummy and then some. The Shishkaberry effects are super potent and relaxing on the onset, but leave you enough time to enjoy the high before any hint of sleepiness kicks in, and it eventually will. The flavor and effect combo might just be one of their best yet, and if you're at all familiar with their gummies, that's really saying something. That being said, we understand that Indica isn't exactly for everybody. For our Sativa Divas out there, we still have plenty of options in MFNY gummies available like Strawberry Mango, Blueberry Razz, and Sour Green Apple. Stop by Terp Bros Astoria today to try the new flavor or pick up a bag of your favorite!
Anthem Infused Preroll Packs - Assorted Strains (Ozone Park)

Anthem has been moving units of pocket-sized prerolls to dispensaries all over the state, and for good reason. They don't seem to want to stay on the shelves. They sell themselves. And we don't mean metaphorically. We actually saw a pack get up, walk out of fulfillment, right up to a customer to sell itself to them. And it worked! He was super charming. Shit was wild. Anyway, if you like the top quality that Anthem prerolls have become known for, you have to try their new infused line. Here at Terp Bros Ozone Park, they've already been hopping off the shelves and into customers' carts at an alarming rate. We still have the Rocket Glare (Hybrid) and the Purple Mountain (Indica) available. If either of those sound like they're up your alley, then turn down the next alley that leads you to Terp Bros Ozone Park to grab a pack (or one of each) while they last!
MVP Cold Pressed Kief Bars 4g (Astoria)

Do you love cannabis concentrate? If so, and you haven't tried cold pressed kief, then you're missing out. Kief is the tiny particles that break off of your flower when you handle it, grind it, or as it dries in the bag. This can be collected through a series of fine mesh screens to produce a much more potent product than the flower it comes from by volume. You can break off a chunk and smoke it as is, or you can break it up into a powder to be added to bowls, joints, blunts, or whatever you like. MVP has gone a step further and portioned it out for you in a convenient little bar. It's like a Wonka Bar, only every one has a golden ticket in it because you get to get high. If that sounds like something you might be interested in, you aren't alone. So, head to Terp Bros Astoria today to grab yours while supplies last! Sorry, no magical factory tour or glass elevator ride through the ceiling available.
Bouket Prerolls - Singles & 5pks - Assorted Strains (Ozone Park)

Bouket is a brand that is quickly making a name for itself in the New York cannabis market. Once you try their flower or prerolls, it's easy to see why. They pay attention. To the details, to the grow conditions, to the packaging. The small things matter more than most people think, and that is something that the people at Bouket understand very well. To truly understand quality like this, you have to try it for yourself. Lucky for you, especially if you're indecisive, there are tons of options available here at Terp Bros Ozone Park. For hybrid singles, we have Creme Bouket, Ethanol 33, Cherry Runtz, Blue Nerdz, GMO Punch, Zkittlez, and Motor Cake. For Indica singles, we have the Tahoe OG, Glitter Bomb, Cherry Paloma, Crunch Berries, Devel Sixteen, Kush Reactor, Grape Pie, and Panama Punch. Finally, for sativa singles we have the Walkabout, Sky Fire OG, Hot Sauce, Lemon Diesel, and Zulu. Yeah… That many. We also have five packs available in Bouket Noir (Indica) and Sunkist (Sativa). With numbers like that, you'd think a couple named Jon and Kate ran the company. As far as we're aware, they don't. Stop by Terp Bros Ozone Park to grab one (or twenty) today!
Weekly Restaurant Highlight - Hellfire Hot Chicken (Astoria)

Story Time! Nashville Hot Chicken is a dish created by a woman out of spite to get back at her husband. She knew that he loved fried chicken. It was his favorite meal. Unfortunately for him, she also knew that he had been cheating on her, and she wanted revenge. So, she made him his favorite meal. When he came home from work, she greeted him at the door with a smile. He walked in, hung up his coat, and sat down at the dining room table. She started making his plate. Mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, a slice of white bread, and on top, a succulent piece of freshly fried chicken, cooked to perfection. Only this time, she didn't season it with the normal salt and pepper. No, this time she took the chicken fresh out of the fryer and dunked it into a homemade pepper oil. Dried and fresh peppers, hot ones, flash fried and then simmered to release the spice's full potential. Then she took some of the dried spicy peppers she used to make the oil and made a fine powder blend. Enough, she thought, to bring him to his knees where she could confront him about his egregious infidelity. She placed the chicken on the plate, atop the single slice of white bread, and brought it to him at the table with the most believable smile she could muster. She sat down to be more comfortable while waiting for the fruits of her vengeful labor. He looked at the chicken, grease as red as a fire engine leaking into the white bread underneath, then back at her. She nodded and smiled. He picked it up and took a huge bite. He chewed, immediately began to sweat, and loosened his tie. She thought she had him when he started chugging his beer. Only, to her surprise, he finished the beer and went back for more chicken. She was stunned. He asked if she could make the chicken this way from now on and she couldn't believe it. What started as a plot for revenge, led to an apology, and ended with a fiery addition to the southern food landscape that has become popular all around the world.
Now, even Astoria has a handful of "Hot Chicken" places. Quotes because we've tried the original, and a lot of the ones that have been popping up around here, so we have a bit of info on the subject. A lot of places outside of Nashville claiming to offer Hot Chicken are simply selling fried chicken that's been dunked in a spicy hot sauce. Nashville Hot Chicken, that is not. However, one new place seems to be offering something as close to the real thing as we've seen in the city for a while. Hellfire Hot Chicken, here in Astoria, is paying homage to Nashville in a pretty authentic way. Fried chicken, hot oil, dry pepper dust, white bread. They're checking all the boxes and the flavors and sides are on point. Good coleslaw, pickles, fries, and the sauce is bright and tangy while offering a peppery and smoky palate that pairs perfectly with the tongue tingling spice from the chicken (that is also available in mild and plain versions). The tenders are also huge and perfectly crispy, even if you order it for delivery. All around, not a bad place to go if you want a close-to-authentic Nashville Hot Chicken experience here in Queens.
Saturdate Night - Queens Zoo and Queens Night Market

Sometimes you need a little help for planning a date night. We get it. Things get busy and trying to plan something actually fun and enjoyable for both of you can be difficult, especially if you've got kids. But it's important to keep things interesting and go have fun together, so this week we're here with a summertime Saturday date night plan that's nearly fool proof. First, a stroll through Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Take in the sights, the old structures leftover from the World's Fair back in the sixties, grab an ice cream or a snack from a vendor near the park entrance then end the walk back at the Queens Zoo to enjoy looking at the animals and have a chance to feel like you're outside the city (even if just for a few minutes). There are some really fun parts of the zoo. A big enclosed area where a bunch of different birds are flying around. A sea lion show, and a small petting zoo outside with sheep and goats that you can feed. Bring hand sanitizer for sure. After your visit with the animals, head to the science center. Well, behind the science center where they host Queens Night Market, the biggest outdoor food market in all of Queens! It has 100+ vendors selling food, drinks, sweets and desserts, even homemade art and gifts. Every Saturday night through spring and summer! There is also a beer and wine area so you can get a little buzz on, then grab some grub and head for a nice spot on the grass to sit and talk over some amazing, authentic, and diverse cuisine. There you go. Now you have a perfect date idea, fully planned out for you. No more excuses. This Saturday, grab your partner and head to Corona.
