Uncle Louie G Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt (Astoria)

The heat is on, and no, we aren't talking about that super catchy song from Beverly Hills Cop. The temps are getting higher and so are we, which means it's time to scope out new spots for frozen treats to help cool off this summer. If you find yourself in Astoria, come say hello first of all. But then head down ditmars just a few short blocks to hit up Uncle Louie G for some delicious frozen yogurt, Italian ices, and ice cream treats. They have signature creations to choose from but you can also make your own items. Mix up Italian ice with soft serve ice cream or make it a float. Add sprinkles, sauces, you name it! The important thing is that you cool off when it's hot and Uncle Louie G's is the perfect place to do it! Especially when you consider it's just a short walk from us here at Terp Bros Astoria. Stop by here first, get some fire, then head to go see Unc and grab some sweet treats to cool off in the summer heat. Make sure you tell them we sent you!

Renee's Kitchenette Filipino Restaurant (Woodside)

Have you ever tried Filipino food? If your answer was no, respectfully, stop whatever you're doing and head to Woodside to try out Renee's Kitchenette. It doesn't even matter what you get. You're going to love it. Don't believe us? Weird, we've pretty much pushed nothing but fire restaurant suggestions for almost a year now. But we understand some people need to try things before they believe any hype. Respect. Do that. Head over today, tell them we sent you, then order literally any menu item. If it isn't a ten out of ten on flavor, cook, etc. we'll admit we were wrong. But that won't happen. If you need any more convincing, ask the people over at The New York Times who gave them a prestigious spot on their list of the top one hundred restaurants in New York City. They'll tell you you're missing out if you don't give Renee a visit. We suggest starting with the mixed grill. It gives you an opportunity to try a bunch of their different grilled meats as well as their signature Atchara, a pickled slaw-like topping including shredded unripe papaya, peppers, and carrots. It goes with everything. And we don't mean everything Filipino. We mean everything. It really is one of those places you have to see (and taste) to believe.
