If you’ve never participated, this is the perfect time to explore the restaurants of this wonderful neighborhood with curated options meant to highlight the best of the best this area has to offer! From scintillating savory dishes to delectably delicious desserts, this annual event is sure to bring you new, fun restaurant experiences you never expected to have and introduce you to flavors you never knew you needed. Queens Night Market Returns!
The snow has melted, the flowers are blooming, and the temps are climbing back to what some in Alaska would call tolerable once again. That can only mean one thing… Queens Night Market is coming back! That’s right, after a long, cold winter, the hundreds of amazing food vendors from all over the city will once again gather here in Queens every Saturday for a party dedicated to one thing only. Showcasing their perfect pairings and the variety of flavors this eclectic borough has to offer. From spicy Indian curry to partially frozen ice jelly from Szechuan, even Egyptian corn flake crusted chicken tenders. Queens night market has all of the savory and sweet options you could ever want all in one easily accessible location right here in the heart of Queens! Not only that, but the weekly event also features countless local artists and crafters that are selling their unique creations alongside mouthwatering munchies as far as the eye can see.
The first two weekends of the year (April 18 & April 25) cost $5 to limit crowds and allow those of us who consider ourselves semi-professional foodies to get a sneak peak of what the summer has in store for our stomachs. However, starting May 2, Queens Night Market is free and open to the public every Saturday! Where even better is this year they brought back their six dollar price cap, meaning you can sample to your heart’s content without worrying about giving your wallet a heart attack. No promises for your actual heart, however. They do serve a lot of fried foods. See you there!
Small Business Spotlight(s)
This week, instead of shining the spotlight on one specific small business here in Queens, we’re simply spotlighting some of the amazing work small businesses are doing all over the borough. From restaurants offering specials for those struggling to make ends meet to barbershops that cut elderly folks’ hair for free, there are hundreds of thousands of moments each day around the city that show exactly why shopping small really matters. The mom and pop shop down the street is run by an actual mom and pop and they need to pay the bills just like the rest of us do. Not only are they providing a service in their daily business activities, but also in being a part of the mesh that holds our community together. People serve people, for peoples’ sake. Take some time to shop small this week and you can hold your head up high knowing that you are a contributing member of what makes Queens such a special place!
