When it comes to burgers, the true champion is still up for debate. Whether your favorite spot takes four or more guys to cook a burger or you prefer them shaken, not stirred, there are countless contenders for burger gold lining the streets these days. One of the newer entrants in the race for smashed and griddled greatness is 7th Street Burger. Pairing perfectly pressed patties with fully loaded French fry options, their deceptively small menu packs flavors bigger than most! For that reason, they have been popping up faster than gas prices. Topical. However, even our own block of Ditmars here in Astoria is about to get another 7th Street, so there has to be something to it, right? Absolutely. If you haven’t had it yet, and you claim to be a loyal patron to another burger spot in the city, you owe yourself at least one visit to see if you might just be missing out. For your first try when they open, we recommend a single smash classic and a side of fries. Nothing beats the old school combo. For those looking to try something slightly different, check out their loaded burger fries that take their crispy, golden fries and load them with chopped smash burger patties, cheese, onions, and burger sauce. Dar Al-Yemen, Halal Yemeni Cuisine (Ozone Park)

Sometimes you go to a restaurant and the food is great, the service is awesome, yet you still feel like there was something missing. That something is called ambiance, and it’s more important than you might think. This is something the amazing people at Dar Al-Yemen know, which is clear from before you even walk through the front door. The architecture screams Yemeni cuisine, and once you pass through the stone archway out front, you’re fully transported out of Queens and into a small local Yemeni restaurant. It’s not a huge place, but the flavors are enormous! They serve delicious and traditional Yemeni dishes that are sure to have you coming back for more. Usually, we highlight the best few options we think you should try at each spot. However, this time we think it’s best to leave it up to you. There truly is no wrong way to go. All of their soups, starters, main dishes, and even desserts pair well together. A true middle eastern choose your own adventure style meal experience. Warm, comforting soups and stews, fragrant, perfectly cooked rice, marinated meats and vegetables cooked with precision. No matter what you choose, you’ll be happy and so will your belly! Small Business Spotlight(s)

For our restaurant highlights, we tend to heavily favor sit down spots serving savory dishes that make for perfect spots to bring friends or loved ones for a night out. That being said, Queens is also home to some of the most amazing sweet shops of every cuisine imaginable. Shan Sweets is a great example of one of the many places in Queens where you can try sweets and treats from another cuisine that you may have never had before. Indian and Punjabi desserts are heavily spiced, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with subtle sweetness. If you’ve never tried sweets from another culture, you’re missing out. Sometimes it’s easy to box ourselves in with flavors and experiences that are already familiar to us. However, the foods we find comforting are only comforting to us now because we tried them once for the first time in the past. By that logic, the more things you try, the more likely you are to build up a bigger list of foods you can consider comforting. When that happens, you’ll  start to find that it’s easy to feel good no matter where you are. We think a perfect place to start with branching out when it comes to food is sweets. It’s tough to mess up something sweet, and cultures pride themselves on their desserts, so it’s usually a good representation of the cuisine itself. They often highlight traditional flavors and pair them with uniquely sweet flavors and varied textures. Listen to us. Basically just describing the general idea of a dessert.
