In 1937, President Roosevelt signed the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. In 1983, Ken Nelson (writing under the pseudonym Albert Most) wrote and published a twelve page instructional pamphlet on how to “milk” the Sonoran Desert frog’s parotid glands in an effort to extract a highly psychedelic substance that we aren’t sure we’re actually allowed to mention by name here. So, for all intents and purposes, let’s just call it frog juiceds. The original users and founders of the drug and the writer of “The Manual” went on to create a “church” in which they would collect and ingest said frog juice to experience psychedelic breakthrough ceremonies. The church was short lived, but the manual written by Ken Nelson back in 1983 lives on in infamy and in the bookcases of super cool people all over. Now that we got that out of the way, Alter has a new version of the Toad Venom cannabis strain available at both Terp Bros locations now! While this strain is extremely potent and delicious, it will not produce effects similar to the Sonoran Desert frog’s gland excretions. Sorry about that. But this weed is amazing! Definitely worth the try, and lucky for you, neither of the Terp Bros locations happen to be deep in the Sonoran Desert. How convenient!

3. BUDget Pocket Rocket Prerolls (Both Locations)

4. Kings & Queens Flower - Blueberry Sugar (Ozone Park)

Alright, so maybe we don’t have a fun historical fact for all of this week’s highlighted products. We apologize. We looked for historical information on blueberries and sugar and we came up empty. Just kidding. Blueberry Sugar was actually a widely used product in indigenous cultures of North America. They would dry the blueberries and crush them into a powder and mix it with raw sugar. This was then added to dishes to bring a sweet and tart pop of flavor. Bam! Blueberry Sugar facts! Alright, now to the flower itself. This strain is known for its potent sedative effects. Users often report a tingling, euphoric high that quickly melts into a heavily relaxing and sleepy finish. The flavor profile is overwhelmingly sweet with a pungent earthiness and a berry forward creamy note on the end. Looking for a spot to scratch that Guyanese food itch? We’ve got the place for you! If you love Guyanese food, or even if you’ve never tried it before, you’re going to want to propose to the amazing cooks at Sybil’s Bakery & Restaurant. Save your money and skip the ring. Sybil’s is serving up delicious, classic Guyanese dishes to all of Queens! No bended knee required. We go for the doubles. Everything is amazing here, but do yourself a flavor favor and get the doubles. Perfectly crisped Puri (fry bread) with delicious house made curry, chickpeas, and other toppings of your choice. The curry is perfectly fragrant, the chickpeas are warm and comforting, and the bread has an undeniable crunch before giving way to a steaming, pillowy softness on the inside. The perfect vessel for sopping up sauces and fallen chickpeas. The Guyanese beef patties are most definitely worth a try, too. Different in size, shape, and flavor to Jamaican beef patties, but delicious and worth a try in their own right. No matter what you get at Sybil’s, you’ll be planning your next visit before you take your last bite! Make sure you let them know that Terp Bros sent you when you stop by!

Unmei (Astoria)

If you’ve had Taiwanese food, you love Taiwanese food. It’s that simple. And that’s why the talented people at Unmei have kept their menu simple as well. Sure, sometimes it’s fun to flip through a fifty page restaurant menu just to order something ridiculous like a buffalo crawfish cornbread bagel bite salad. And yeah, maybe the idea of spending three times longer to pick your meal than you do to eat it sounds fun for some, but the disappointment of trying something fun and new only to hate it is one of today’s most annoying feelings. Just behind dropping your fork and not being able to get the attention of the wait staff to get a new one and just above telling the waiter “you too” when they say “Enjoy your meal.” Regardless, the amazing people and the delicious food at Unmei here in Astoria will make you feel like you just reunited with an old friend. Even if it’s your first time trying it. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but here are some of our favorites! First up, the Xiao Long Boa (soup dumplings) are fantastic! They’re hand made and the quality is apparent with every bite! The popcorn chicken, plum seasoned sweet potato fries, and Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup are all bangers too. You just have to try it to understand. And when you do, make sure to stop by Terp Bros Astoria before or after to grab some amazing new products!

Do you love movies but aren’t as in love with the experience that comes along with the Regals of the world? Maybe you would prefer your theaters slightly smaller, with more food options, and to be NYC’s first Black-Latina owned Cinema? You’ve found the right slightly obscure, independent cannabis dispensary newsletter! If you love all things cinema and would love a new, smaller, more intimate theater option that has homemade food, cheap ticket options, and free shots with PM showtimes, then we think we may have found you your new favorite spot! Stuart Cinema & Cafe is turning the idea of going to the movies on its head! They have a full service cafe offering fantastic flavors that will have you wondering if you left the movie theater and ended up in a high end restaurant. You haven’t, but the empanadas alone at Stuart’s are worth the visit. The other food is amazing as well, and yes, they also have traditional movie snacks like popcorn, sodas, and candy. The theaters are slightly smaller, offering a more intimate cinema experience with all the luxuries you expect from the bigger theaters like large screens and reclining seats. Whether you’re sick of going to big movie theaters, you’re just looking for something new and fun to do, or if you need a spot that works for a true dinner and movie experience all in one, Stuart’s is the place for you!
