HinoMaru Ramen (Astoria)

The weather is officially getting cold again. You know what that means, don't you? It's soup season! From broccoli cheddar to minestrone, soup is the best fall food to keep you warm and full. We happen to think that ramen is a top contender for best soup in the world. The richness, the flavorful broth, the fresh veggies, the stewed tender meats. It has everything you could ever want from a soup, PLUS it has amazing handmade noodles that have the perfect bounce and chew. Now, while not every ramen restaurant is a true gem, HinoMaru definitely is. Don't want to take our word for it? No problem, maybe the Michelin guides that recommend the ramen at HinoMaru can sway your decision more effectively.

Lucky for you, if you live anywhere near us here at Terp Bros Astoria, it's only a short walk away from our front door. Their menu is extensive and each item is as delicious as you want it to be when you read it to yourself at the table before placing your order. Everything hits. Nothing falls flat. Our personal recommendations for a meal at HinoMaru include the Pork Belly popcorn and Crispy Chicken Skin for appetizers. The chicken skin is light and airy with the perfect crunch that gives way to delectable melt in your mouth flavor. There you will find what you've been looking for. From the no frills exterior, we knew immediately we were in for a great meal, and we were not wrong.

Everything here hits. The steamed and fried dumplings are amazing, obviously. The filling is perfectly seasoned, generous, and the skin on them was neither too thin nor too thick. A true balancing act that not a whole lot of restaurants can nail unless they're the real deal. The great flavors don't stop there, though. They also make amazing steamed and fried pork buns, hand pulled wide noodles with amazing house made sauces, and so much more! Some of our favorites are the steamed pork dumplings, the hand pulled noodles with spicy Szechuan peppercorn sauce, and the sesame pancake sandwiches. They are all loaded with delicious meats and fresh, crunchy veggies. You will not be disappointed! Tell them we sent you!
