Riverhead is a hamlet in the Town of Riverhead, on the North Fork of Long Island. It is the town seat and also the official county seat of Suffolk County, and the 2020 census counted 14,993 residents. The name was once spelled River Head, and it stands where the Peconic River ends, flowing into Peconic Bay at the point where the North and South Forks part.
The 1727 Suffolk County Court House, built to serve both forks, is where Riverhead got its start. Riverhead has been the county seat ever since and still holds the region's primary courts. In the 1960s most county offices moved west to Hauppauge, a decision that still prompts talk in Riverhead of a Peconic County made up of the five easternmost towns.
Downtown grew into a commercial hub in the 19th century. Early in the 20th century an influx of Polish immigrants led to Polish Town, home to the annual Polish Town Fair. The hamlet covers 15.4 square miles, and its main downtown is one of the largest in Suffolk County, with active farms in the rural parts beyond it.
Major roads here include New York State Route 25, which leads toward New York City and Orient Point, along with County Routes 58 and 105 and Sound Avenue. Suffolk County Transit buses include route 58 to the Brentwood station via Route 25, route 62 to Smith Haven Mall, route 66 to Patchogue and route 80 to the Tanger Outlets. Hampton Jitney's North Fork route also stops here.
Riverhead station, about 0.3 miles away in a straight line, gets limited Long Island Rail Road service on the Greenport Branch between Ronkonkoma and Greenport. Passengers can connect at Ronkonkoma to electric trains bound for New York City.

Delivery is free for orders over $100. Payment is made in advance with Dutchie Pay, and the driver checks a valid 21+ government ID before handing over the bag. The address has to be a residence or private business per OCM rules, so a park, beach, public space or car does not qualify. The live menu, the Ozone Park store page and the cannabis delivery page are the next stops.
A Riverhead resident past 21 may carry 3 ounces of cannabis along with 24 grams of concentrate. Cannabis cannot be used in a vehicle, nor anywhere that tobacco smoking is barred.
