Three ZIPs, Split by Avenue

Three ZIPs split the neighborhood by avenue. Above 90th Avenue is 11427, from 90th to 99th Avenue is 11428, and from 99th down to 114th Avenue is 11429. All three ship from the same store.

Bellaire sits in the western part of the neighborhood, next to Hollis, around 211th Street.

Little Plains, Brushville and the Railroad

Settlers called the place Little Plains in the 1640s. A blacksmith named Thomas Brush set up shop in 1824, and the village took his name as Brushville. Trains reached it on March 1, 1837, and in 1856 a local vote swapped Brushville for Queens.

The station sign still nods to that past, and the Dutch Colonial and Tudor houses put up in the 1920s and 1930s give the side streets their look.

The Station, the Library and the Motor Parkway

The station sits at Amboy Lane, at the corner of Springfield Boulevard, and serves the Long Island Rail Road's Hempstead Branch. No New York City Subway stations serve the neighborhood, so the railroad and the buses carry the commute.

The neighborhood library branch is at 94-11 217th Street. Cunningham Park and Alley Pond Park are both nearby, and so is the old Long Island Motor Parkway, the road built for the Vanderbilt Cup races at the start of the 1900s.

Where You Can Consume

New York bars cannabis use in a vehicle and anywhere tobacco smoking is barred, and NYC Parks bans smoking and vaping in city parks, beaches and pedestrian plazas, both of those parks included. Private property, where the owner's rules allow it, is the simplest choice. The NYC Parks smoke-free rules list what is covered.

How to Order
