Jericho Turnpike separates the Queens side from the village of the same name in Nassau County. Bellerose Village is an incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead, separate from the neighborhood.
The 2020 census counted 26,566 people in the neighborhood.
The village across the line began in 1907, when Helen Marsh of Williamsburg bought 77 acres of gladiola fields near Floral Park for a planned community. Its first house was finished in 1910. Marsh talked the railroad into a stop for the new village and picked the name Bellerose because it sounded pleasant to her, "euphonious" in her word. Homeowners voted the name in officially in 1917, and the village incorporated in 1924.
The Village Hall, Fire House and Police Booth, known as the Municipal Complex, are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hillside Avenue and Jamaica Avenue are two of the major east-west arteries. The Q43 and QM68 buses run on Hillside Avenue. The Queens Public Library runs a branch at 250-06 Hillside Avenue.
There is no railroad stop on the Queens side; the nearest are just over the city line on the LIRR's Hempstead Branch. Bellerose station is at Commonwealth Boulevard and Superior Road in Nassau County, a quarter mile below Jericho Turnpike, first built in 1898 and rebuilt in summer 1909.
NYC Parks rules ban smoking and vaping in city parks, beaches and pedestrian plazas. Consumption is best kept to private property.
