Oakland Lake is a bigger kettle pond at the far western end of the park next door. Gertrude Waldeyer, who led the 1980s campaign to preserve the lake, gave her name to the boardwalk around it. The lake was restored in 1987 and 2011.
Alley Pond and Cunningham
At 655.3 acres, Alley Pond is the second-largest public park in Queens. The Queens Giant, a tulip poplar in the park, stood 133.8 feet tall as of 2004, which makes it the tallest carefully measured tree in the city.
Cunningham is a 358-acre park. The Board of Aldermen voted in 1935 to rename Hillside Park for Cunningham.
