Atlantic Beach is a Town of Hempstead village on the western end of Long Beach Barrier Island, and the 2020 census counted 1,707 residents. Point Lookout, Lido Beach, East Atlantic Beach and Long Beach share the island with it.
In 1922, Robert Moses folded Atlantic Beach into his State Park Plan for New York. His blueprints drew a parkway running out of central Queens toward a bridge over Reynolds Channel. Cost overruns on his other projects, among other factors, led to the plan being abandoned. In 1923, a developer group led by Stephen P. Pettit set out to build a rival to the city of Long Beach.
The bridge linking Far Rockaway to Atlantic Beach was dedicated on June 29, 1927. In May 1928 the Castles Beach Club opened its doors. In World War II, the tip of Silverpoint got a lookout tower of concrete, 120 feet tall. The village is sometimes nicknamed the Palm Beach of New York.
Reynolds Channel, the Bridges and the Boardwalk at The Plaza

A new bridge came next. Ground was broken for the new bridge on October 14, 1950, and the ribbon was cut on May 10, 1952. In June 1953, a rebuilt boardwalk was finished between The Plaza and Putnam Boulevard. The village incorporated in 1962 and held its first elections that June.
