A South Shore Hamlet With a Famous Address List
Merrick is a hamlet in the Town of Hempstead, set on the South Shore of Long Island. The 2020 census counted 22,040 residents. Of its 5.2 square miles, 1.0 square mile is water, so close to a fifth of the hamlet is water.
The hamlet has produced an unusual number of recognizable names. Mario Puzo, who wrote The Godfather, is on the list, along with the fashion designer Michael Kors and Paul Krugman, who won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Economics. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the pair behind Ben and Jerry's ice cream, appear there too. Television fans may know the streets already: the houses used for the outside shots of Frank and Marie's home and Raymond and Debra's home on Everybody Loves Raymond stand at 136 and 135 Margaret Boulevard.
Merrick Station, the Babylon Branch and Margaret Boulevard
Trains stop at Merrick station, part of the LIRR Babylon Branch, which is about 0.3 miles from the town point we measure from. Margaret Boulevard, mentioned above, is the address of those television houses, so fans of the show can find them on a map before ordering.
